Mini V-Tec.
Mendoza Automotive Developments
MAD Power Systems have developed a subframe kit to install a Honda V-Tec engine and gearbox into a classic Mini. The frame is designed to accept the infamous 160+Hp B16A DOHC V-Tec engine. This powerful engine will transform your shopping basket into a street screamer! Purchase the required parts and DIY, or we offer a "turn key" installation. The choice is yours.
The subframe uses custom engine mounts and control arms, with inboard coil-over type suspension. Both the engine mounts and the control arms can be rebushed if needed - no "rod ends" are used. Factory Mini hubs or GT/Metro hubs can be used, with the factory brakes also, although a brake upgrade is highly recommended. The factory steering rack is retained in it's original location. Custom made equal length billet axles are made to suit the hubs and gearbox used. Caster and camber angles are fully adjustable. Additional kits include gearchange assembly, radiator kit, and a front brake upgrade kit.
The design has been to make the swap as easy as possible, with no structual cutting required (e.g. no bulkhead or floorpan cutting). Inner guards and front valance area require modification (Clubman), and a nose extension of aprox. 90mm is needed on the "roundnose" Mini. The Honda gearbox requires the removal of a casting "bump", and the engine requires modification to the crank pulley. No other engine modifications are required e.g. sump, intake or exhaust manifolds. If you have the knowledge and resources to remove the original engine and subframe assembly, then fitting the MAD Power subframe and Honda powertrain should be easily accomplished.

The design has been developed and tested to comply with New Zealand regulations governing modified vehicles (Low Volume Vehicle Compliance) and has a compliance approval certificate.  All structual welding is to NZS4711 standards.  All documentation is supplied upon purchase.
As foreign regulations vary considerably, the onus is on the purchaser to check this frame will comply with any regulatory requirements. Material and welding specifications are available on request.
